First European Equal Pay Day highlights EU earnings gap

5 March 2011 was the first EU-wide Equal Pay Day, which aimed to raise awareness of the gender pay gap. This day marked the extra number of days in 2011 that women must work to match the amount of money earned by men in 2010. Conference: The reality of discrimination today

On 9 June 2010, our Chair Trevor Phillips addressed a conference in the European Parliament on 'The reality of discrimination today', chaired by MEP Claude Moraes, and opened by Spanish Equality Minister Bibiana Aido. His remarks addressed the need to move beyond a legalistic approach to tackling discrimination, towards a more transformative model of change.
