Celebrating 20 years of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995

2015 is an important year for equality and diversity. It marks 20 years since the landmark Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), 40 years since the Sex Discrimination Act and 50 years since the Race Relations Act.

To celebrate the anniversary of the DDA, watch our video which celebrates the passing of the Act, its context and its impact along the road to equality. We interview one of the original architects of the DDA, Baroness Campbell of Surbiton, about the impact it has had on the lives of disabled people and hear from campaigners who have used the Act to effect change.

In 2010, the Equality Act combined all equality enactments including the DDA. The Equality and Human Rights Commission, as the successor body to the Disability Rights Commission, continues the journey and makes significant contributions towards the advancement of equality for disabled people.
