Immigration Bill, House of Lords Committee Stage Briefing 29 October 2015

The Commission welcomes the provisions in the Immigration Bill designed to tackle illegal working and enhance the enforcement of labour market rules.

However, our view is that the way in which the changes are proposed could have the unintended consequence of undermining the Government’s policy intention and potentially damage progress made on other issues, such as stop and search.

We also have particular concerns about Parts 2, and Schedule 6 of the Bill with regard to compliance with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
